Rules of the Road to Ship Fleet Vehicles

If you’re in charge of shipping your company’s fleet of cars or trucks to a new location, there are a few things to know to ensure a successful delivery. Auto transport for fleets of any size: corporate cars, vehicle rental agencies, auto dealerships, auto auctions, or even federal agencies transporting multiple vehicles across the state or across the country can be easy and economical if you plan right.

What You Need to Know Before Requesting a Quote

Fleet vehicles often look alike being of the same make and the same color. Excellent record keeping is crucial to ensure trackable transfer of multiple vehicles. Start by taking note of the:

  • Make
  • Model
  • Year
  • Color

And because fleet vehicles typically come in the same style and color, recording the VIN for each vehicle is also critical. It is also wise to make a note of and record the condition, including any existing damage, in your records and also on the Bill of Lading before releasing the vehicles for transport. Records should be prepared and shared with not only the carrier, but whoever is receiving the fleet.

And finally, to meet your business needs, schedule your vehicle transportation as early as possible. Multiple vehicles are more difficult to schedule than a single unit. Scheduling as far out as possible will ensure that your schedule and your budget will be met.
