Shipping Your Car To Another State?

Are you moving to California, New York, Kansas or any number of other places in the United States? Many people prefer to fly and have their furniture shipped. And in many cases it is best to consider shipping your car (or cars) to another state as well.

Shipping Your Car To Another State: Cost and Other Details

Pricing for car shipping to another state can vary depending on the conditions specific to your situation factor but all transport companies must consider four factors when determining cost:

  1. Special Options – such as enclosed carrier or expedited service
  2. Quantity – the number of vehicles being transported
  3. Distance – origination to destination
  4. Size and Condition – the vehicle size and where or not it is operable.

How to Prepare Your Car For Shipping:

Your car’s exterior needs to be clean so that the driver can inspect it for existing scratches and dings.

  • If external modifications such as a roof rack can be removed, do so and store it inside the vehicle if possible.
  • Cover the driver seat and driver-side floor mat so the truck driver doesn’t get dirt in the vehicle while loading or unloading.
  • Remove automatic toll devices and disable security devices.
  • Leave about a quarter tank of gas in the vehicle – enough for loading and unloading but not enough to add extra weight.

Use our handy checklist to walk you through the process.
